The prolific author of The Raven Heir<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, Stephanie Burgis, is one who loves magic, fantasy and history and has written several series for middle fiction with strong adventurous female protagonists.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Raven Heir<\/em> is the first in a new fantasy series, based around triplets Cordelia, Giles and Rosalind. Each of the triplets has magical abilities and have grown up in a castle protected by their mother Kathryn\u2019s magic in a deep part of the forest. What they didn\u2019t know was that their mother was hiding them from a dangerous secret \u2014 the firstborn triplet is the rightful heir to the kingdom but trying to take the throne means certain death as the rival kingdoms fight for power.<\/p>\n\n\n

Their hideout is discovered and Kathryn taken prisoner, but not before she commands the triplets to run into the forest that, up until now, has protected them but is now a source of as much danger as it is safety. Cordelia, Giles and Rosalind have to learn to harness the powers they were discouraged to use under their mother\u2019s protection and work together to keep each other safe and reach the crown, whose possessor rules the kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A little Lord of the Rings<\/em> and Game of Thrones<\/em> (obviously without the violence and naughty bits), Burgis weaves a magical tale of rival dynasties, danger, magic, family secrets and loyalty around the quest to return the throne to its rightful heir while creating the perfect tone of adventure and drama for middle grade readers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wonderful cover captures Cordelia perfectly and Burgis\u2019 writing creates a world so vivid you can almost hear, smell and feel the forest as you turn the pages. Add in a strong plot and wonderful developed characters and you have the page-turning foundation to what is sure to be an enchanting new series for young and old alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
