Tim Winton has won the 2019 Voss Literary Prize for his novel The Shepherd’s Hut<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, a book described as “an urgent masterpiece about solitude, unlikely friendship, and the raw business of survival.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winton’s win was announced last night in Wollongong by the Voss estate and the Australian University Heads of English, with Kate Hoy of Penguin Random House accepting the award on his behalf. The novel was selected from a shortlist<\/a><\/strong> that included such novels as Melissa Lucashenko’s Too Much Lip<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (the 2019 Miles Franklin Literary Award winner) and Trent Dalton’s Boy Swallows Universe<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This novel has been a firm favourite amongst Booktopia’s staff, including John Purcell, who wrote that “we come back to Tim Winton because there is always something true in what he writes \u2013 a truth that can\u2019t be blurted out or rolled into a neat little aphorism, but has to be felt or experienced through the telling.
