@aussierorygilmore lets us know her favourite new books from BookTok!

BookTokker @aussierorygilmore shared with Booktopia her recent favourite books she found through TikTok as well as some classics. If you are looking for your next read – you have come to the right place!

Radio Silence by Alice Oseman

“This book is for the burnt-out, overachievers who never feel like they are good enough. It made me feel so seen and represented as a teenager who is navigating the final year of high school. Oseman never fails to create such loveable characters that you can’t help but connect with them. Radio Silence has diversity and representation and I think everyone should read it.”

Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kayson

“If you already have a mental health condition, this book will resonate with you. You’ll find a connection to your own life and experiences. Published in an era when mental health wasn’t discussed, this is a very brave story. Every sentence in this book is honest and raw which allows for trust and empathy. This book was nothing like I had ever read before, and I loved it. It spoke to me, and I hope it speaks to you as well.”

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

“We all love our cliche, fun, and wholesome story, but this book/trilogy is so much more. This book completely transports you to the beach, you can practically feel the sun on your skin. If you haven’t read this series yet, please, please, please do yourself a favor and pick it up!”

Before The Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi

“This book is the perfect book for when you want to snuggle in bed on a rainy day, drinking endless cups of coffee. It’s a beautiful magical realism story that brings up so many emotions while reading. It’s short, fast-paced, and leaves the readers wondering who they would go back in time to see”

Unnecessary Drama by Nina Kenwood

“THIS CONVINCED ME THAT I LIKE ROMANCE BOOKS!!! First off, AN AUSTRALIAN ROMCOM?! yes, please. As a fresh 18-year-old, this book made me realise that what I’m going through is normal. It captures the feelings of what it’s like to start uni, move out of home, forming new relationships, and just what life is like after high school. This book was honestly so good, and so SO relatable for the mum friends, the hopeless romantics, and the perfectionists. it’s out October 5th and everyone who likes romance books should read it.”

About @aussierorygilmore

Meg has been a reader since she was little, as it is her form of escapism, and comfort. A TikTok about Sarah J Maas’s ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ books inspired Meg to create her own TikTok account dedicated to reading and all things bookish, as well as study content, and lifestyle vlogs. When Meg isn’t reading, she is most likely studying for her year 12 exams. Meg loves lots of different genres, but her guilty pleasure is YA paranormal romance, which she has a whole bookshelf dedicated towards, including over 5 copies of ‘Twilight’.
