This is the new swoon-worthy romance novel by the TikTok (or BookTok I should say) famous author Ali Hazelwood! Love on The Brain is a STEMinist rom-com in which a scientist is forced to work on a project with her nemesis – with explosive results. As someone who is a HUGE fan of Hazelwood’s first novel, The Love Hypothesis, I was filled with anticipation and high hopes for Love On The Brain (just ask my colleagues). I was so excited to read this that I even took it on my trip to Uluru and devoured it within 24 hours. Read on to find out my thoughts….

Bee Konigswasser is the pieced, purple-haired, Star Wars-loving, neuroscientist female heroine you didn’t know that you needed! I was pretty obsessed with her throughout the book (despite the fact she was a cat lover). Bee has just accepted her dream job at NASA developing helmets for astronauts – Yay! Except there is a catch, the head engineer on the project is tall, handsome, Levi Ward, who she believes hated her in Grad school.
This sets the scene for a semi-enemies-to-lovers (or is it?) science love fest as they navigate their way through the project and many misunderstandings along the way! Bee has been burned in love before and is very cautious about putting her heart on the line again.
There is more than meets the eye in this book – as it features not only steamy love – but espionage, drama, and even a mystery that you may not see coming. While I’ve never much enjoyed science (except maybe high school biology), I did enjoy the conversations this book had around the difficulties women in science endure, lots of Marie Curie facts, and even obstacles graduates face getting into science professions.
This book is fun, steamy (read: very spicy), and everything you could want in a contemporary romance read. Hazelwood delivers on a fantastically fun, nerdy romance that is great for those who love science, spice, and super hot book boyfriends. Readers who enjoyed The Love Hypothesis will definitely enjoy Love On The Brain!
