Hello lovelies and welcome back to Romancelandia, where it seems a little bit of lovin’ is just what the doctor ordered right now with Covid still rattling its chains at us. In last year’s July column, my thoughts were with everyone in VIC. This year, it is the residents of NSW who are hunkering down in their homes, that are snagging my attention. But, don’t worry, because romance novels have gotten many a reader through tough times including a pandemic. Can they make Covid disappear? Nope. But they can distract and transport to a place where everything works out okay in the end and hope, in the face of adversity, is not nothing.
With that in mind, this month I deviate from the usual course and bring you the Romance Writers of Australia 2021 Ruby award finalists for books that came out in 2020. The Ruby is the highest award in all the land for romance writing – think the Oscars! – and rewards excellence in the genre. The awards ceremony is being held on August 14th during the annual conference which happens every year around the same time – except last year when it was cancelled (as just about everything was in 2020). But, fingers crossed everything is okay for the ceremony, which I am very excited to be MC’ing!
There are six categories and, as always, if you see anything you like, just click on the titles to check them out!

Driving Her Crazy - Amy Andrews
Journalist Sadie Bliss is on a mission to prove herself as a world-class reporter. But three things stand in her way. Firstly, dangerously mouth-watering photographer Kent Nelson â" he’s far too brooding and arrogant. Secondly, a road trip across the outback with above distraction â" did she mention she doesn’t do sleeping under the stars?! And lastly, an insatiable longing to throw her rule book out of the car window…because what happens in the outback stays in the outback. Right?...
