National Simultaneous Storytime 2021 is just about here! On Wednesday 19 May at 11 am AEST, kids across Australia and New Zealand will come together in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places. Why? They’ll be reading a picture book that’s been written and illustrated by an Australian author — all at the same time!
This year’s National Simultaneous Storytime pick is simply out of this world: it’s Give Me Some Space! by the wonderful Philip Bunting. Check it out!
Una dreams of a life in Space. Life on Earth is just so so-so. But how will she get there? And will she complete her mission to discover life in Space? And did she remember to feed Neil the goldfish?
What’s more, Give Me Some Space! will be read from the International Space Station by N.A.S.A. astronaut Dr Shannon Walker! You can watch this from 11am AEST, Wednesday 19th May.
If you’re keen to take part, you can join 1.8 MILLION other kids in Australia and New Zealand by registering to participate here.
Here at Booktopia, we were lucky enough to be able to interview Philip Bunting about Give Me Some Space! and National Simultaneous Storytime 2021, so be sure to check that out too!
This year’s event is taking place with the help of Scholastic Australia, the Australian Space Agency, the Office of the Chief Scientist and Story Time From Space. National Simultaneous Storytime is held every year by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), with the hope of promoting the value of reading and literacy — you can find more information here.
Please join us in celebrating National Simultaneous Storytime 2021!
