The 2020 Miles Franklin Literary Award longlist has just been announced!
Established in 1957 in Stella Miles Franklin’s name to reward high quality fiction representing Australian life, the literary prize is considered to be one of the most distinguished in the country. Past winners have included Alexis Wright, Anna Funder, Tim Winton and Peter Carey.
Richard Neville, State Library of NSW Mitchell Librarian and Chair of the judging panel, said:
‘This year’s Miles Franklin longlist is a mix of established and newer Australian authors. Their novels give voice to a diversity of Australian characters whose common feature is their location on the margins, whether geographical, familial or societal. They explore the ripples and repercussions of childhood trauma, the healing power of friendship, and the unshakeable presence of the past.’
The shortlist will be revealed on the 17th of June and the winner announced on the 16th of July. Scroll down to see the 2020 Miles Franklin Literary Award longlist in full!
