The new Artemis Fowl movie trailer has dropped!

After years of being stuck in development hell, the long-awaited Artemis Fowl movie is (finally) nearly here!

Directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Ferdia Shaw as the titular criminal mastermind himself, along with Lara McDonnell, Josh Gad, Tamara Smart, Nonso Anozie, Colin Farrell, and Judi Dench, this movie promises all of the fun and high-tech intrigue of Eoin Colfer’s original book and series.

While it looks really cool, the film does seem as if it will deviate slightly from the books. Eoin Colfer is totally on board with all the changes, however, telling Polygon all about the adaptation process:

“The movie did add one thing that I wish I could add to the book … I can’t tell you exactly how, but they added a ticking clock element to the siege which makes it far more exciting. There were many other changes such as gender switches, plot twists, and backstory which I am one hundred percent behind,” he said.

“I think inclusivity is a wonderful thing, and I am all for switches and changes if it means the best person gets the job. Sometimes a character is so imprinted on the public consciousness that a significant change can be confusing, but most characters can take it without disturbing the narrative in a negative way.”

With Eoin himself reportedly appearing as an extra in one scene, this is one film you can’t miss. Catch it in cinemas on the 28th of May, 2020!
