Today, the 77th Golden Globe Awards will take place in Beverly Hills. Hosted by Ricky Gervais, it promises to be a glittering event that brings together the brightest stars to recognise the greatest performances and technical prowess of the year’s best in film and TV.

Even better, this year’s crop includes a bunch of films and series that are based on bestselling books, so I’ve taken the liberty of rounding them up for you below. Read on!

Me

by Elton John

9781509853311

Film: Rocketman

Nominated for: Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy (Taron Egerton).

OK, this one’s cheating a little bit because Rocketman isn’t strictly based on Me, but if you loved the film about Elton John’s life, odds are you’ll love the official autobiography by the man himself.

Fleabag: The Scriptures

by Phoebe Waller-Bridge

TV Series: Fleabag

Nominated for: Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy (Phoebe Waller-Bridge), Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television (Andrew Scott).

What can be said about Fleabag that hasn’t already been said? We love this show. You love this show. It’s bloody amazing. Take a peek inside the fabulous brain of Phoebe Waller-Bridge with this annotated Fleabag script!

Little Women

by Louisa May Alcott

2020 Golden Globes - Little Women

Movie: Little Women

Nominated for: Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama (Saoirse Ronan), Best Original Score – Motion Picture.

If I think about the fact that this movie only received two nominations at the (male-dominated) 2020 Golden Globes for longer than three seconds, I might actually scream. Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of this beloved novel is a masterpiece and a loving tribute to the life of Louisa May Alcott. Once you’ve watched the film, you’ll want to run straight to the book.

Big Little Lies

by Liane Moriarty

2020 Golden Globes - Big Little Lies

TV Series: Big Little Lies

Nominated for: Best Television Series – Drama, Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series – Drama (Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman), Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television (Meryl Streep).

I’ll be honest, I was sceptical about a second season of this show, given that the first season was so good and had adapted the entirety of Liane Moriarty’s book. Happily, I can say that I was blown away by what they did with the story in the second round of Big Little Lies, and Reese, Nicole, Zoe, Laura, Shailene and (of course) Meryl were all in top form.

Codename Villanelle

by Luke Jennings

2020 Golden Globes - Killing Eve

TV Series: Killing Eve

Nominated for: Best Television Series – Drama, Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series – Drama

Look, nobody wanted the second season of Killing Eve to be as lacklustre as it was, but we can’t always have nice things. Nevertheless, it still delivered enough of Villanelle’s killer charm to satiate me and I’m thrilled to see Jodie Comer finally get the recognition she deserved from the very first episode. Dive into Luke Jennings’ series with book one: Codename Villanelle.
