Any die-hard Elena Ferrante lovers in the house? It’s going to be a fabulous Christmas for you – the elusive literary giant has written a new book and it’s coming this November!

Ferrante’s Italian publisher, Edizioni E/O, announced earlier today that there would be a new book on the shelves of Italian bookshops by 7 November. While they did not confirm a publication date, Ferrante’s American publisher, Europa Editions, quickly confirmed the news, stating that “We don’t expect to keep readers of the English edition waiting too long.”

Details of the new Elena Ferrante book are scarce, but a brief excerpt posted by Europa Editions revealed that it will be set in Naples.

This sets it very firmly in the same territory as her bestselling Neapolitan novels, a four-book series portraying the life-affirming friendship between two young girls, Elena and Lila, who grow up in a poor neighbourhood of Naples.

This is quite possibly the most exciting news outside of the release of The Testaments, Margaret Atwood’s sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale! We’ll definitely be updating this post as more news rolls in – for now, you’ll just have to wait …
