Nominations for Australia’s Favourite Author are now open!

The poll that stops the nation is back!

We’re asking you to tell us your favourite Australia Author!

Novelists, picture book authors, historians, biographers, all authors are now all open for nomination!

You see, January at Booktopia is the month of Australian Stories, an entire month dedicated to celebrating books by Australian authors.

To celebrate, we need your help to discover Australia’s Favourite Author (don’t forget to check out the results for 2015, 2014 and 2013)!

Help us by lodging your favourite authors over the next week. At the end of the week we’ll take the authors with the most nominations and put them into heats where you can champion your favourites.

Once we have a top 50, we’ll put it to a worldwide vote right here on our blog!

Then, on the week leading up to Australia Day, we’ll count down your votes from 50 to 1, with Australia’s favourite author to be announced on Friday the 29th of January!


WEEK ONE – JAN 4-10 – Let us know your nominations for your favourite Australian author. As many as you like, anyone who you think deserves recognition! You can do this through….

WEEK TWO – JAN 11-17 – The Heats! We’ll take the top 200 nominations and split them up into groups you can vote on! Every day from Monday to Friday a new heat will go up, with the Top 15 from each heat going through to the final round of voting.

WEEK THREE – JAN 18-24 – Only the best of the best will make it through to the final poll. We’ll have this poll up all week. This will be the final chance to cheer for your favourite Australian Author.

WEEK FOUR – A WEEK OF AUSTRALIAN STORYTELLERS – Voting will close on Sunday the 24th of January at midnight. From Monday the 25th we’ll count down the top 50, unveiling 10 authors each day, until…..

Australia’s 10 favourite authors will be announced on Friday the 29th of January. We’ll be profiling all of the top 10 authors and the books that have made them your favourites. It’s a festival of Australian writing!

    Geraldine Brooks. I’ve just finished The Secret Chord, and although the author now lives in America, she was born and brought up in Australia.
