Remember December And Buy In July During Booktopia’s Christmas In July Sale.

by |July 22, 2013

My mother loved a sale when I was a kid, but she wasn’t tight with money, on the contrary she was generous to a fault.

Every achievement was met with a reward. Topping the spelling test, eating all my veggies, washing myself, washing the dog, not getting in the bath with the dog after realising I’d get a reward for washing myself and the dog. That sort of thing.

So why did Mum love a sale? How was she equal parts thrifty and generous?

She knew that it wasn’t the size of the gift that counted on the big occasions, it was the little gifts that always made me smile and told me I’d done the right thing. And it was the mountain of brilliant books she’d get on the cheap for Christmas and my birthday that would keep me reading all year long that I loved, not just the biggest most expensive gift.

So this July do what my Mum did. No, not raise a slightly strange book blogger with a penchant for clumsy self-analysis.
