It will give you the tips and tricks you need to organise parental and household duties so that resentment doesn’t become an extra member of your family.
Now is a great time to negotiate the job you want, the hours you need, the flexibility you have to have to make it work. Especially with expert, hands-on advice and information to help you along the way. Why? Because Australia’s population trends are creating a nationwide skills shortage.
For starters, the workforce is ageing. It’s the most noteworthy projected change in population, here and internationally, over the next fifty years, and it means there’ll be fewer people of working age to fill jobs. On top of that, while our birthrate has increased slightly in the last few years, it’s still almost half what it was in the 1960s, when the average was 3.6 children per family. This means that there are fewer younger workers available to develop the necessary skills. Alongside both of those trends is the fact that more than four million baby boomers (born between 1946 and 1964) are now entering the retirement zone, meaning an exodus of skilled, experienced workers.
When you consider that 48 per cent of Australian workers are female, and that 55 per cent of all graduates are women . . . well, that’s a large percentage of Australians of working age. It puts Australian women in a better position than ever before to make the workplace work better for them. Jobs need to be filled. Now’s the time to ensure your job is filled in a way that works for you, your family and your employer.
