Chaos Walking 3 – Monsters of Men

by |August 5, 2009

patricknessAs you know, we at Booktopia are big fans of Patrick Ness and his Chaos Walking series.

This from his site:

The wait is over!  Here it is at last, the title that follows The Knife of Never Letting Go and The Ask and the Answer to finish off the Chaos Walking trilogy with a bang.

On page 430 of The Knife of Never Letting Go, Todd has a flash of memory:  “War makes monsters of men, I hear Ben saying.”

On page 102 of The Ask and the Answer, Viola remembers it, too:  “War makes monsters of men, I say, quoting Ben…”

And in the final volume, they’ve come to it at last.  They’re going to find out for themselves how true that is, whether they want to or not.

So I hereby give to you today, the title of the final volume of the Chaos Walking trilogy:

Monsters of Men.

Out May 2010 in the UK.

My question for Patrick is….. how on earth are we going to wait that long??????

I absolutely love you books patrick. I have been dying to try and get the third book of the chaos walking trilogy. But now I have found out it comes out in 2010, I think I might have to drop dead. I will go looking in shops all around the country to find it, when it has been published. I really hope it’s as good as the first two. I’ve already recommended THE KNIFE OF NEVER LETTING GO and THE ASK AND THE ANSWER to everyone I know. I’ll recommend the third aswell if it is anywhere near as good. I hope to god that it is. I can’t wait to find out what happens next!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Totally agree! I just found out tonight that the third one still wasn`t in stores. Because I live in Argentina and the series aren`t in ANY booksrore I had to order it by Amazon.
It came in two days ago.
      I already finished it.
It`s one of the best books i`ve ever read (the only competitors are “THE KNIFE OF NEVER LETTING GO ” and the “TWILIGHT SERIES”)! Acctually, both books in the saga (until now) are the only books that I have read (and I had read quite a bunch) that have acctually made me: cry (poor Manchee), take my breath away (torturing Viola, Aaron), stay up until 3:00 am a Tuesday (I just couldn`t stop! If my mum finds out she will KILL me!).
I love The Knife of Never Letting Go so much I even composed a song for it (everything mine, lyrics and music)!
For the third book i`m really expecting a lot of things. I would like an unexpected twist (and am not really worring about that because you, Ness, are an expert at that) and that Viola and Todd fall in love completly. AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, IF ITS THE FINAL BOOK DON`T YOU DARE TO END IT WITH AN OPEN OR A SAD ENDING!
So, in summary, I completly adore you`re books and I can`t wait for the third one.
PS: Please, about what I said about no open ending, I MEAN IT!
      Unless…you want to write a fourth book….
Then I guess, an open ending will not KILL me….

Well, I can’t say I approve of you buying from A**** when you could be buying from Booktopia but I suppose you have to buy from somewhere if the books aren’t stocked in Argentina. (We do FedEx by the way).
I have had more comments about Patrick Ness books than anyone else’s on this blog but I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. They are so, so good and he sure knows about a cliff hanger of an ending. As fast as we get them in stock, they race back out again.
By the way, number three won’t be out until about May (sob). A small compensation is that he is coming to Australia early next year and is sure to be doing some events where he can meet his fans. I will be interviewing him for the website, so if anyone has any questions they would like me to put to him, let me know.

i so agree. i read the knife of never letting go when in, no kidding, 1 day, i was too reading till about 3 or 4 in the morning (and haven’t told my mum.. [; ) it was so awesome i read it again. then i practically ORDERED my mum to get the next book cos of the intense cliffhanger at the end of the first XD and i stayed up really late reading that as well.. then read it again.. then read them AGAIN recently so ive now read them 3 times each. and im practically counting down the days till monsters of men.
i love them sooo frikken much i am addicted. and, like when avatar came out (best movie EVER) , i have told everyone and anyone to go out and BUY THIS ‘GODDAM RUDDY’ SERIES!! one of my friends already has 😀
love love love. definitely my favourite books ever – and i have read a lottttt of books. so yeah, anyone who’s hesitating over buying these books: do it. you’ll thank me ;D

I TOTALLY agree! The third book (sadly the final one) HAS to have Todd and Viola fall in love (With no annoying “other guy” problems for her) AND no open ending! Ugh! I HATE having to use my imagination! I want YOUR imagination! I am a reader fanatic and i NEED a good full-filling ending! I don’t want to sound demanding but thats just what need to happen to make it the AWESOMEST book ever!
    Love ya books man!
    Stay awesome!

Ooh! And do you know what would be the coolest thing EVER?!? Making the Chaos Walking books SERIES of movies!!!!! That would be DA BOMB! But with new CUTE actors (we girls don’t want to be stuck with an ugly todd) (OR and ugly Viola too, for that matter. We musnt ruin their perfection-ness!!!!) Anyway, just wanted to say that that would be SUPER cool!
    STILL love ya books man!
Stay cool for me dude! Ya hear?
All the way from Portland OR,

I LOVE YOUR BOOKS!! they are clearly more amazing then the cringeful twilight that im devastingly angry that stupid book has a movie deal and the chaos walking doesn’t (smoulders in anger as she writes this)

I’m with you – we are sisters in smoulderhood! It is hard to imagine that a story as good as this will remain out of Hollywood’s hands for much longer.

PLEASE DONT SEPERATE VIOLIA AND TODD OR I WILL THROW THE BOOK OUT. will todd meet 1017 again? will 1017 still hate him, will mayor prentiss and mistress coyle get defeated???!!!! my fav characters are violia, davy, manchee, lee, 1017 and i kinda have a thing for todd lol!

    April 18, 2010 at 1:24 pm

this is kinda random but if you make a movie then please have a look at the songs on the new moon soundtrack. eg satellite heart would be absolutely perfect for the knife of never letting go! i also have ONE MORE QUESTION!!!! JUST ONE!!!

    is viola blonde or brunette?

  • Aidan

    May 22, 2010 at 5:38 am

If they DID make a movie, I’d be interested to see how they would incorporate Noise into it, it would be difficult, but if they did it well, it could be great. I’d also not want to see americans playing the characters, I don’t know why, but I just think of tod having a Northern English accent, and Viola being slightly posher, having grown up on a space ship and not a farm. Daniel Craig as the Mayor? Hell yeah!

i totally loves the to first books!! it took me ten days to read both…i was hoping the third would come out sooner because i really dont know how long i can wait i really really want to find out what happens. ness leaves both of the books leaving you guess and it drives me crazy!

    July 2, 2010 at 12:15 pm

if they did make a movie i reckon todd wouldn’t look as good on the big screen as in my head. he is really hot in my head and lee is even better loking and viola is really pretty and davi looks like he’s in alot of fights u no alot of lost teeth the mayor would have to be a little fat around the middle . and no actor would get there nose cut of like aaron.
the movies would have to live up to my exceptions other wise the just lost there biggest fan ever.
manchee was the best dog ever

ps. i got dibs on lee mine

I’m not a huge fan of reading but man this bookwas good. I read and read and read all day. I didn’t want to perform simple daily activittes such as going to the toilet or getting a drink because that meant I’d have to stop reading! It’s so exhilarating and things are so abrupt and exciting! 😀 Mayor Prentiss, hes evil, sadistic and cruel. I know im not supposed to, but I really liked his character. He is clever, sly and always successful in manipulating people. He’s got to be one of the smartest characters inthe book! But he’s a bit of a nutter. As much as I hate to say this, personally, I found the ending quite disappointing. It was a tad bit cliche for such original novels. Never the less. I love your books Patrick Ness! I hope you have more books on the way (:
