This is part of a series, and while you could read as a standalone you'll get so much more out of it if you have read at least some of the earlier books. I like that this focuses on a character who's been a shadowy presence in the earlier books and you get to see him through the eyes of new character. It also explores some different aspects of this world by moving away from the 'primary' location of New York, and the series' lead characters. This story is about mysteries being revealed and romance being allowed to blossom, which I like. There is action in here as well, don't get me wrong, but it is not the focus of this novel the way it has been in some of the others.
