Stretching from the barren ice fields of the Arctic to the stormy coast of Cape Horn at the southern tip of South America, the American continent covers an enormous distance and is home to a wide range of animals, each of which is adapted to its particular habitat.

Along the Arctic coasts there are hooded seals, walruses and orcas; in North America there are black bears, river otters and moose; and the Amazon jungles of South America are home to four-eyed frogs, giant anteaters and capuchin monkeys.

This wonderful book is a fully illustrated guide to over 200 species of amphibians, reptiles and mammals living in this continent, with detailed information about each species' distribution, habitat, food, size, maturity, breeding, life span and status.

The book also includes a natural history section that answers questions about animals' evolution, anatomy, survival and reproduction, plus information about endangered species and conservation.

The book features many record-breaking animals and especially extraordinary animals, such as the world's largest land carnivore, the Kodiak bear, the world's largest rodent, the capybara, and the largest snake in the world, the green anaconda. From Alaska to the Amazon, this is a superb family reference for anyone interested in the wildlife of America and it is also perfect for schools or as a home study aid for school projects.
