The Amazing Faces of Central Virginia is in honor of some of the ordinary people in our community who have done extraordinary things. In the process of honoring people for the ways they have found to express themselves, it is likely that others will be inspired and feel empowered too. It is a recognition that you do not have to be the smartest, the most talented or the most beautiful to make your mark on the world and to leave it better than when you found it. Some amazing stories are by design and others by accident. Some are created from passion and others from happenstance. What is important is that we have the ability to create something powerful from wherever we stand.
Advertisements were placed in the media requesting that people submit stories about the amazing people in their lives. Many wonderful and heart-warming stories were received and trying to determine who to include in this book was challenging. The common thread that was noted in all of the stories was that the people who were being nominated were being nominated mainly because they treat other people well. Interesting - the authors of the letters seemed more inspired by kindness than by accomplishment. After the interviews were completed, another common thread is that each of these people was able to articulate a belief system that is positive, upbeat, and that communicates a"can-do" disposition as well as a love for other people.
From ages 11-98, these amazing people include a senator, a judge, dancers and musicians, as well as educators, social change agents, a motorcycle enthusiast and many others.
