Against a Crooked Sky

In the vast and untamed wilderness of the American frontier, a young man sets out on an impossible journey-one that will test his courage, his convictions, and the very limits of love.

Against a Crooked Sky is the unforgettable tale of a pioneer family struck by tragedy when their daughter, Charlotte, is captured by a Native American tribe. As grief and uncertainty grip the homestead, her teenage brother, Samuel, makes a bold and dangerous decision: to venture alone into the unknown, across rugged mountains and through hostile territory, to bring his sister home.

Guided only by the strength of his faith and a determined spirit, Samuel's quest becomes more than a rescue mission-it becomes a rite of passage. Along the way, he is joined by an aging, grizzled prospector and a dog named B'ar Killer, whose loyalty and humor add warmth to a journey filled with hardship. Together, they face natural dangers, cultural barriers, and the haunting reality that not every story ends the way we hope.

Based on the 1975 film of the same name, this novelization by screenwriter Douglas Stewart and co-author Eleanor Lamb expands on the cinematic tale with deeper insight, richer character development, and powerful emotional depth. At its core lies an enduring truth drawn from the Gospel of John 15:13 (KJV): "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

Blending the spirit of classic Western adventure with timeless moral themes, Against a Crooked Sky is a moving story for readers of all ages-about the lengths we go for family, the cost of true sacrifice, and the unshakable belief that love can bridge even the most impossible divide.

Nearly five decades later, Concordis Publishing is honored to reintroduce this enduring classic to a new generation of readers.
