I was just about to write off A Maze of Death as one of the worst books I had read in years, it suffers from boring, caricature characters and a plot based around a not so interesting mystery. But then I read the last 10 pages or so and the surprise twist at the end changes the entire perception of the book, it's strange universe and its dull characters. In fact I'm almost definitely going to read it again because the ending changes everything and makes a lot of the flaws of this little book tolerable. However I can only give the book a 3 because of how dull it was to read, at only 190 pages it took me almost two weeks to read because I kept putting it off. However the enjoyable ending will keep it on my shelf probably for the rest of my life. A strange little book with a big payoff if your willing to put the effort in.
