This is the first book to provide a comprehensive explanation of the bewildering array of acronyms and technical terms which have crept into the literature in recent years. Aimed at chemists and biochemists who have only an elementary knowledge of NMR, it provides a clear description of the concepts and basic principles involved. Recent developments in two-dimensional NMR methods in liquids have had a significant impact on the study of biological systems, and detailed descriptions of the techniques currently available are given. Mathematical descriptions are used where appropriate, since in many cases this is the only medium rigorous enough to convey ideas that are quantum mechanical in nature. However the level of mathematical competence required is low, and the more complex aspects are fully explained in the text. The use of a dictionary format allows easy reference. Each term is explained in full, extensive cross-references are included, and suggestions for further reading are given at the end of many entries.
Industry Reviews
`A useful reference source for scientists who are already familiar with NMR spectroscopy in general' Times Higher Education Supplement `... an excellent product. The book is recommended as essential for any NMR laboratory. ' Chemistry in Britain `highly recommeded for any scientist with an interest in NMR.' Institute of Physics Journals, November 1995 ` ... an excellent guide to most available techniques with a clear and concise description of the principal theoretical background.' Trends in Analytical Chemistry ` an attractive book, and will be most valuable for students just entering the field and for people relying on results from NMR studies to interpret their own results.' Trends in Biochemical Sciences `this book is an extremely useful compendium and handbook on the current state of the subject' Education in Chemistry, March `the book undoubtedly provides a concise guide to the NMR jargon, particularly for two-dimensional experiments in liquids, and should prove extremely useful to the ever increasing number of specialists in other fields who find themselves having to get to grips with NMR, as well as to new research students in NMR itself' A.M. Kenwright, University of Durham, Spectrochimica Acta, Vol.47a, No.3/4, 1991 'the book provides clear explanations of even those methods that have been most recently adopted into bioloical NMR spectroscopy' Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. Engl. 1994, 33, No. 3
