This book is designed to help people make an informed and balanced decision on how to best care for their loved ones when they are ageing or dealing with dementia. It examines the benefits and drawbacks of the various care options available and compares them according to the needs of each individual. It also provides detailed practical advice on how to make a home a suitable and safe place to live. Through check-lists and questionnaires, this book answers some of the important questions that arise when assessing a person's need for care and ease some of the guilt that might be associated with making those decisions.

Comments about A Common Sense Guide to Aged Care:

I have been working as a nurse in aged care in Australia for over 10years now, this book was disappointing, there is nothing about My Aged Care which all services for the aged need to go through. It talks about Hostels, which no longer exist in Australia, there is no such thing as low level care and high level care in nursing homes. Also, I was mortified when reading "dementia residents" we don't use this terminology it is degrading. The best thing about the book is that it is easy to read.

Comments about A Common Sense Guide to Aged Care:

This book is so helpful to anyone with aging relatives. It is practical and easy to read. The check boxes on the back pages are an invaluable resource. Should be handed out in hospitals and nursing homes.
