The new DCI Banks from Number One bestselling author Peter Robinson.
When Detective Inspector Bill Reid is found murdered in the tranquil grounds of the St Peter's Police Treatment Centre, and compromising photographs are discovered in his room, DCI Banks is called in to investigate.
It emerges that Reid's murder may be linked to the disappearance of an English girl in Tallinn, Estonia, six years earlier. While DI Annie Cabbot looks into the case in Eastvale, Banks travels to Tallinn to track down leads in the dark, cobbled alleys of the city's Old Town. But it soon becomes clear that someone doesn't want the past stirred up, and that solving the interlinked crimes may put even more lives in jeopardy.

Comments about Watching the Dark:
Set in both Yorkshire and Tallin, Estonia, the novel prompted me to research Tallin and realise how beautiful it is and what a marvellous, unusual, intriguing and affordable travel destination it provides. Also it dealt with people trafficking and the vulnerability of young females abroad in a strange country and the predators who exploit and abuse them. Peter Robinson always delivers a fantastic read with multiple layers and complex characters.

Praise for Peter Robinson [:]'Peter Robinson has for too long, and unfairly, been in the shadow of Ian Rankin; perhaps PIECE OF MY HEART, the latest in the Chief Inspector Banks series, will give him the status he deserves, near, perhaps even at the top of, the British crime writers' league' [Marcel Berlins, The Times]'Brilliant! . . . Gut-wrenching plotting, alongside heart-wrenching portraits of the characters who populate his world, not to mention the top-notch police procedure.' [Jeffery Deaver]Classic Robinson: a labyrinthine plot merged with deft characterisation [Observer]Robinson also has a way of undercutting the genre's familiarity. With a deceptively unspectacular language, he sets about the process of unsettling the reader [Independent]
