Booktopia Comments

A great series for kids aged 7 to 12, especially written for boys but suitable for "ghoulish" girls too. The books are 145 pages with 20 lines on a page so it is a decent-sized read. Every few pages there is a picture in black and white and they are really well drawn and about half the size of a page so it should keep the young reader engaged and enjoy the story even more. At the back of the book there are lots of riddles, character profiles and other fun things to read.

The books are written by an ex-teacher who obviously has a good sense of keeping kids entertained and knows what sort of ghoulish stories are interesting for kids of this age. He even included a fact page at the front of the book about the Black Death, but in saying that he has the same page in each volume.

Kids will love these books. We do have a number in the series in stock and at the bottom of this page you can see more books available in this series. (Please note that some books in this series may run out before others.) The books can be read individually and you do not need to have read one before another, so they can be read out of sequence.

Book Description

St Sebastian's School in Grimesford is the pits. No, really - it is. Built on the boggy remains of a medieval plague pit, this once proud school's dodgy nineteenth-century foundations are causing it to slowly subside.

Every year it sinks a little further into the ground, and every year the ghosts of the plague victims underneath become more disgruntled. All they want is to rest in peace, but during term time all they hear is the clatter of hundreds of pairs of high school kids' feet overhead.

The cast of the forthcoming school play, Romeo and Ghouliet, is all set to wow a wealthy ex-pupil into making a big donation to the school.

But the leader of the plaque-pit ghosts, Edith Codd, gets wind of this and hatches a plan to bring the curtain down - forever.

Can James, Alexander and Lenny prevent the first night from becoming everyone's last?
