Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a strange package with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers several cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker - his classmate and crush - who committed suicide two weeks earlier. Hannah's voice tells him that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out why. Clay spends the night crisscrossing his town with Hannah as his guide. He becomes a firsthand witness to Hannah's pain, and learns the truth about himself-a truth he never wanted to face.

Thirteen Reasons Why is the gripping, addictive international bestseller that has changed lives the world over. It's an unrelenting modern classic.

    Comments about Thirteen Reasons Why:

My early teenager desperately wanted to watch the TV series. Knowing very little about the book or series I agreed we'd buy the book, I'd read it and assess from there.
There's not a chance I'd let him watch the series, I did let him read the book. I understand the series is even more sensationalised then the book. Yes, it generated a lot of discussion at the dinner table but it's sucidice sensationalised. It's a sensitive and important subject handled irresponsibily.

      Comments about Thirteen Reasons Why:

I read this with a view to giving it to my kids to read, but I ended up not doing so. Some of the content was not suitable for my youngest in my view and the older child wasn't interested at all.

Although the book is largely a fiction about why a girl suicides the book is hugely informative and could be used as a primer on why people need to value/cherish life & maintain good relationships.

WOW. A truly heartbreaking story, but beautifully written and extremely engaging. Read with caution though, as it is quite emotion heavy. LOVED IT!!
