'The Wonder Weeks. How to stimulate your baby's mental development and help him turn his 10 predictable, great, fussy phases into magical leaps forward' describes in easy-to-understand terms the incredible developmental changes that all babies go through during the first 20 months of their lives.

Age-related fluctuations and the need for body contact and attention are all related to major and quite dramatic changes in the brains of children. These changes enable a baby to enter a whole new perceptual world and, as a consequence, to learn many new skills.

Wonder week by wonder week you’ll discover the dates in the first 20 months when all babies take ten major development leaps. Learn how to encourage each leap forward. Help your baby with the three Cs of fussy behavior: Cranky, Clingy and Crying. Recognize the on-set of stressful times and join your children in coping with them.

This is a great reference for new parents or those who are interested in baby's milestones and how their behaviour periodically changes when they are acquiring new skills. The timing of the 'leaps' and physical skills to look out for are absolutely spot on. My tip is to read up on the upcoming leap before it happens, so that you can help your bub through it and be on the look out for ways to support their new skills as they happen. Oh, and there's an accompanying app!

Being a first time mum & dad, this book helped us immensely at those times when our little fella was cranky, clingy and crying. It relieved us to know that he was simply going through another developmental stage and there were things that we could do to help him rather than hinder.

We refer to wonder week when our daughter is having a 'leap'. It supports me as a first time mum in keeping grounded about what is going on for her and guides me in how I can support her the best.
It's a point in reference rather than a solid read all the way through book for me.

After using the wonder weeks app, I decided I would like some more in depth info on the 'leaps' that occur in my baby's development. This book was very reassuring that what we were experiencing was within the spectrum of normal and reminded me to take the time to care for myself. This gave me more patiences during the 'fussy periods' and made it a little bit easier to help my 4 month old experience the world.

The Wonder Weeks has really helped me understand my son's mental development. It identifies his needs and wants at certain pivotal points in his early life and gives me the tools I need to ensure he grows and learns the correct way. I would recommend it to any new mum.

Useful at times when you are ripping your hair out wondering what on earth happened to your routine, whether you are doing something wrong, or why oh why is baby behaving like that?!
A reassuring read that explains the why's, what's and when's of babies developmental stages. Gives a better understanding from babies perspective as well as other parent's experiences.
Not necessary to read all at once- as if parents of young babies have time to do that! Just read section applicable to developmental stage/predicted age. Each stage is also set out so that it is easy to put down and pick up as required.
The app is very similar. I just prefer books :)

This book is an excellent read for anyone expecting a baby or has a baby between birth and 20 months. Very informative, and extremely accurate in understanding your little one. Great to read each chapter before your baby reaches that age so you know what to expect.
We don't get an instruction manual as parents but this book certainly helps!
