To many people the name Elyne Mitchell is synonymous with The Silver Brumby, the timeless classic that has captivated the hearts and imaginations of young readers since it was first published in 1958.

This special edition has been published to commemorate the centenary of Elyne Mitchell's birth and contains The Silver Brumby and three other favourite Brumby books: Silver Brumby's Daughter, Silver Brumbies of the South and Silver Brumby Kingdom. These much-loved classics tell the story of Thowra, the magnificent silver stallion, king of the brumbies. Whether you are enjoying the Silver Brumby series for the first time or rediscovering it after many years, this is a book to be treasured.

Also included in this beautiful edition is a specially commissioned biography of Elyne Mitchell, who was born in 1913 and went on to become one of Australia's most successful and popular authors. The biography also contains photographs that depict Elyne in many other areas of her long and distinguished life, including that of daughter, wife, mother, sportswoman, horsewoman, farmer and environmentalist.

About the Author

Inspired by her father, who taught her to ride, Elyne Mitchell's interest in horses began when she was a young girl. The Silver Brumby, written for the eldest of her four children and first published in 1958, heralded the beginning of the internationally famous series - there are 12 Silver Brumby titles in the series. In March 2002 Elyne Mitchell died at the age of 88 years. Her legacy continues in the stories she created of Thowra and the other High Country brumbies.

Comments about The Silver Brumby Centenary Edition:

This book was a childhood favorite and I liked the idea of the first 4 books being bound together. I want to re-read the stories from an adult perspective.

Comments about The Silver Brumby Centenary Edition:

This is an amazing compilation of four much loved books. Being able to read all of them from start to finish is a big benefit of multi-volume editions. Surprisingly, given the size, this book wasn't overly hard to handle.

Certainly the story is beautifully written with amazing descriptions, much as it has always been. The covers of these new releases are also beautiful and simple and clean, a wonderful fresh take.

I have been hunting for these books since I was a child, but they've been hard to get a hold of up until now. It's a pleasure to see them republished.

Comments about The Silver Brumby Centenary Edition:

This book was a gift when I was a child. I have read it repeatedly throughout my life and every time it inspires and holds me captive with its evocative beauty, the spirit of freedom, its noble characters, and the bonds of love and friendship. Mitchell is an author of exceptional talent and she has captivated me over a span of 30years and every time transports me to feel as though I am in running beside the Silver Stallion across the wild mountains where the he roams. Thank you Elyne Mitchell for gifting us with The Silver Brumby. This is more than a book it is an old and dearest friend.
