After the birth of her dairy-intolerant son Troy, Marlies Hobbs had a new outlook on life and a sincere appreciation for the effects of food on our physical (and mental) health. About the Author
After the birth of Marlies and Jai’s first son, Troy, who suffered from severe reflux caused by a dairy intolerance, Marlies discovered it was the same intolerance that had caused her adult acne and digestive problems. Adopting the Paleo lifestyle not only resolved Marlies’ skin and digestion, she lost weight, slept better and felt fit, healthy and alive.
It was this discovery that fuelled her endless passion for sharing the Paleo lifestyle. Formerly a planning and environment lawyer, Marlies decided to pursue her dreams and left her career in law, risking everything to open the first Paleo Café in Cairns in October 2012. With an explosive response and demand for more Paleo Cafés, Marlies quickly established the business as a franchise and in 2014, accepted an offer to sell the flagship Cairns café to focus her energy on spreading the Paleo message in Paleo Café HQ.
As well as being a mother to two beautiful boys, Troy and Zac, she has the thriving family business and a successful cookbook to her name and can also add the title of 2014 Emerging AusMumpreneur of the Year award to her list of achievements. Today, Marlies plays a large role in the strategic direction and growth of the Paleo Café brand, as well as finalising menus and offering legal support. Her passion for Paleo living is infectious and she has big dreams of showing people there are alternative ways to live and to inspire them to find the right work/life balance.
In between dreaming up inspirational, follow-up cookbooks and continuing to create a world-class franchise support system, she’s also planning ways to give chefs a brighter future through Paleo training courses and also inspiring other businesses to create ergonomic work spaces that promote balance and productivity.
