The Mediterranean Diet is one of the most respected and prescribed diets in the world. Its positive health effects have been rigorously tested for more than 60 years, and the results are incontrovertible. The diet is as effective as drugs in treating heart and diabetes, and can prevent both conditions. It aids weight loss, promotes longevity and slows the progress of Alzheimer's.

Dr Catherine Itsiopoulos has spent her working life researching the diet. In her first book for a general audience, she offers an accessible and scientifically proven version of the diet specifically for Australians. Drawing on the food traditions of her Greek heritage, Dr Itsiopoulos gives us 80 beautifully photographed recipes, eating plans and nutritional advice, as well as sharing the evidence as to why this remains the world's most effective diet for long-term health outcomes and weight management.

The key components of the diet are: olive oil, leafy greens, eggs, fruit and nuts, legumes, fermented dairy products (yoghurt and fetta), seafood, a small amount of red meat and a miniscule amount of sugar.

Great lot of scientific information that is easy to read and understand. This sets the stage for 80 healthy recipies. Unfortunately many of the receipes take around 2 hours to prepare and cook - much too long unless you have the time and enjoy cooking. So it's a great book to understand and implement healthy eating, but is let down by the time needed.

For ages I have tried to find a book that would guide me to healthy eating - This is it! Not fad diets but a scientifically researched (20 years) method of enjoyable daily eating that promotes good health (and for me, weight loss).
Well set out with lots of background information that is easy to read, then 80 easy recipes for all meals with ingredients that can be found in the supermarket and are not expensive.
I have stuck gold with this book!

I found this book very informative on the Mediterranean Diet from an Australian perspective. It was interesting to read about the various aspects of the Greek/Cretan diet and the magic of olive oil.

Have cooked many recipes within the book with the majority turning out well. Others could do with a little bit more flavoring but that is more about personal taste.

There are some issues with page numbers not referenced properly. Also the actual weight of the serving size would have been great to go with the nutritional information provided.

Definitely a keeper and use it on a weekly basis.

The Mediterranean Diet cookbook is not worth the money I paid. It doesn't have many recipes for the size and cost of the book. I was expecting more from this book after all the hype.
