In this complete player's companion to the ancient game of Mah Jong, Patricia A. Thompson and Betty Maloney have put together a cross-filed reference grade where more than 120 hands, illustrated in full-color, can be quickly identified by flip-top headings on each page. A full synopsis of each hand is included, and an array of hands sent to the authors from players around the world adds new challenges and an international flavor to this book.

Illustrated hands of play are extremely helpful. Also has a condensed written version in the back of the book of "hands" to play.

Comments about The Mah Jong Player's Companion:

This book shows a variety of mahjong hands for the beginner. There are clear pictorial representations of the hands and it is cross referenced for ease of use. I recommended this mahjong reference to my playing group and they all purchased it.

Comments about The Mah Jong Player's Companion:

This book is well organised so that you can see at a glance which Mah Jong games could be built on the hand you are dealt. The illustrations of the tiles needed to complete in each game are a great help when people are learning how to play. This book does not go into rules and set up etc. you would need another book for that but this book cannot be surpassed as a game aid during play.
