About the Author

Jane Ogden is Professor of Health Psychology at the University of Surrey, UK, and has researched eating behavior, obesity management, and eating disorders for 25 years. She has published over 140 papers and is the author of five books, including The Psychology of Eating: From Healthy to Disordered Behavior, and Fat Chance: The Myth of Dieting Explained. In addition, she has published several articles for a non-academic audience and is a regular contributor to health discussions on the radio and television and in magazines and newspapers. She has two children, and this book is the culmination of 14 years of trying to put her research into practice.

    This is such a useful book. I have always tried to encourage my children to eat healthily but it was hard work and not how I'd envisaged bringing up my children. This book has been so helpful. It explains how children develop a preference for what to eat and gives loads if practical advice on how to avoid mealtimes becoming a battlefield. I have just put a couple of changes in place and I can already see a change in their attitude and behaviour towards food. Very pleased!

      Love this book! Not only are there easy-to-read explanations on why children would prefer not to eat certain foods, there's plenty of practical tips on how to win them over without having to resort to bribery! There's also a really useful section on how to encourage your children to develop a healthy body image. Really useful book which I'll definitely be turning to for advice as my children grow.
