The Girls is an evocative story of childhood and of an abrupt arrival in the adult world. It was an immediate success when first published in 1997, appearing twice in the Age bestseller lists. This new edition includes photographs of many of the characters and incidents in the book.

About the Author

Robin Levett is the only woman to have been elected president of a Grade One Australian turf club: she was President of the Kilmore Turf Club from 1989-1994. This was the climax of a long career in the thoroughbred industry as a breeder and owner, during which her horses won the VRC Derby, the VRC St Leger, the Perth Cup and the Brisbane Cup. She draws on her experience of the industry in this, her first novel.

Robin Levett's previous books are The Girls, an evocative memoir of a childhood in the 1930s, and The Shikari, a persona; account of the tragedy of Kashmir, involving the unusual amalgam of fly fishing and the horrors of civil war.
