The first body is that of a university archaeologist, Christine Autran. Dead before she was thrown into the sea, she is found washed up on the coast of Marseille.
The Second is the butchered and mutilated body of Helen Weill. Next to her corpse in ochre paint, is the print of a three fingered hand.

About the Author
Xavier-Marie Bonnot has a PhD in History and Sociology, and two Masters degrees in History and French Literature. The First Fingerprint is the first of a quartet of De Palma novels and has won two literary awards in France, including the Roman Policier Prize in 2002.
