The UK published "In Easy Steps" range of computer books is my first port of call whenever I purchase a new item of computer hardware or software. Excited with a new purchase, we often want to press the 'on' button and get it up and running immediately, but it really pays to spend a little time to read, at least, the "Introducing the Galaxy Tab" chapter before you do so, and learn how to set up a Samsung and Google account, and prepare a couple of strong passwords. Unfortunately, these days very little 'hard copy' info is included with a hardware (or software) purchase, and this is where this book becomes invaluable.
The book measures 22cms by 18cms, (9" by 7"), covers Tablet 2 and Tablet 3, and the Android "Jelly Bean" operating system. It consists of eleven colour-coded chapters in 192 pages. It covers the basics of setting up, managing the home screen, wireless setup, keyboard, the myriad of Apps available, the Samsung hub, Google play entertainment, using the camera, email, messaging, Web browsing and Security issues, all in plain, 'geek free' language.
The book does, of course, necessarily include quite a bit of text, but it is very legible and well spaced, and includes many colour 'how to ' photos, along with lots of eye catching icon margin 'don't forgets', 'hot tips', and 'be awares', so is very easy to follow, and is a really useful reference for those times when you get stuck a bit further down the track.
