Rowan is an unlikely hero. The sturdy people of Rin see him as a timid weakling. Yet Sheba, the unpredictable old wise woman, sees in him a special quality not possessed by the other villagers. Time after time Rowan must save his people and prove himself by embarking on a dangerous quest where his success depends on his ability to solve Sheba's cryptic riddles. The sequence of five quest stories builds to an extraordinary climax as slowly the pieces of the puzzle come together to reveal the truth about Rin.

Comments about Rowan of Rin : The Journey:
Easily some of Rodda's best work.
I have been a long time fan of the Deltora Quest series and have thoroughly enjoyed Rodda's other works in the past. However, Rowan of Rin seems to be on an entirely different level.
The insular world Rin gives the story a very unique tone, blending gritty realism and fairy tale into a gripping and moving story. This book is aimed at younger readers but can be enjoyed by older readers just the same. While the messages and subtext may seem more obvious to an adult, it doesn't make the stories contained here any less enjoyable. Rowan is easily the most relateable character I've ever played, special in no other ways than having a shy and kind demeanour.
The only criticism I have for Rowan of Rin is that there isn't more of it! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.
