"Those durned Mexicans," as Bob Hardy put it, were running off with his cattle. Within three months he had lost about a thousand cattle and the thefts had been executed so cleverly that the beasts had been driven across the river into Mexican territory before the loss had been discovered.
Spurred on by his daughter Lou, Bob Hardy applies for one ranger to stop the rot.
But two arrive, and the question arises as to whether both are genuine. Ranger views ranger with suspicion, and there's a packet of trouble before the "durned Mexicans" are bust up. And there;s Lou, with the golden hair and violet-blue eyes, to lend romance to an exciting story of the west.
