Book Description

Claire Randall is leading a double life. She has a husband in one century, and a lover in another...
In 1945, Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon--when she innocently touches a boulder in one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach-- an " outlander" -- in a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of our Lord...1743.
Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire's destiny in soon inextricably intertwined with Clan MacKenzie and the forbidden Castle Leoch. She is catapulted without warning into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life ...and shatter her heart. For here, James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a passion so fierce and a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire...and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

        Comments about Outlander:

I read books all the time and love having one in my hand or in my bag to take on the bus with me.

I loved Outlander/Cross Stitch the very first time I picked it up and read it close to nine years ago and I still love it now after many, many repeated re-reads.

        Comments about Outlander:

I'm not really sure what I expected, but it was definitely different to what I just experienced! Firstly, it grabbed me straight away - a strong female British nurse, only just returned from WW2 is hurtled back in time to 1743 Scotland - yes please! I love time travel, and historical fiction even more. What I didn't expect was a mixture of history, fantasy, romance, brutality, erotica, and pure heart-wrenching drama. There were a few moments where I felt a little sick to the stomach, and others where I wanted to cry. The language and grammar is a little hard to follow at first as well, but you get used to it, and kudos to the writer for the authenticity. You'll be disgusted, horrified, amused, uncomfortable, happy, intrigued and always wanting more. Highly recommended for anyone who's looking for an indulgent escape from reality ;)

                Comments about Outlander:

I'm not much of a reader but it was recommend so I decided to give it a go. It started an addiction that I had to get my next fix in the series. I couldn't put them down. The characters are so well written you have such a need to find out what happens to them. I have since followed the authors website and have a whole new family of readers to enjoy them with. It has scifi, romance, history and intrigue, everything you want in a good read. Highly recommend this book and the other 6 that follow.

                    Comments about Outlander:

This is the first in a wonderful series. I have read the lot three times and can't wait for the next book. Absolutely intriguing full of exciting, larger than life characters. The historical background is spot-on - full of romance - incredible plots and it's simply too breathtaking in scope to put down. Totally immersed in the whole set-up.
