A children's edition of the book that proposes solutions to global warming, especially edited for the 9-11 age group.
Al Gore has been a passionate advocate of action to halt climate change for many years. In his bestselling book An Inconvenient Truth, adapted from his acclaimed film, he wrote about the urgent need to address the problems of climate change, presenting comprehensive facts and information on all aspects of global warming in a direct, thoughtful and compelling way, using explanatory diagrams and dramatic photographs to clarify and highlight key issues.
Adopting the same lucid technique in Our Choice, he proposes solutions at every level of our lives, from the personal and local, to the national and political, to the area of international policy and law.
For this young adult edition, the text has been edited down with a 12-year-old-plus readership in mind, so sections aimed specifically at adults will be omitted in favour of clear text, appropriate photographs and easily understandable graphs.
The overall aim is to gear the content towards the people who will, in fact, be dealing with global warming throughout their lives.
Al Gore was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1976 and to the US Senate in 1984 and 1990. He was inaugurated as the forty-fifth Vice President of the United States on 20 January 1993 and served eight years.
He is chairman of Generation Investment Management, a London-based firm that focuses on a new approach to sustainable investing. He also serves as chairman of Current, an independently owned cable and satellite television network for young people based on viewer-created content and citizen journalism.
Al Gore is the author of the bestseller Earth in the Balance and An Inconvenient Truth, the companion book to the award-winning documentary film. Like Our Choice, An Inconvenient Truth is also available as a young adult edition.
As happened with its predecessor An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore's blueprint of solutions for climate change has been adapted especially for younger readers.
'You can't fault his sincerity, rigour and energy as he pleads, with recourse to blinding graphs and damning photo evidence, that we all, especially his fellow countrymen, need to sit up and realise that global warming is neither a wacky theory nor a political manifesto, but stone-cold reality' Time Out 'An impeccable slideshow, with just the right balance of gut-wrenching photographs, comprehensive charts and frightening predictions' New Scientist 'A lucid account of what Gore rightly calls "a moral issue", delivered with authority, wit and style' Observer
