It is ten years since Tom Strong left Bristol, and the Strong family, whose wealth is founded on sugar and slaves, want him back.

Spearheaded by Horatia, the family is determined to diversify into property and land. Horatia is ruthless and will do anything to win Tom for herself, but Blanche Bianca, now married to a sugar refiner, is also stirred by Tom's return - she must decide between duty and passion.

When Tom discovers the depth of Horatia's deceit in her efforts to marry him, he plans to leave - until a secret from the past threatens to change his mind...

From the author of Like an Evening Gone and Forgotten Faces comes another volume in this captivating trilogy, a vibrant tale of explosive secrets, ruthless ambition and enduring love.
