I have done bad things. I can’t take them back, and they are part of who I am.

Tris has survived a brutal attack on her former home and family. But she has paid a terrible price. Wracked by grief and guilt, she becomes ever more reckless as she struggles to accept her new future.

Yet if Tris wants to uncover the truth about her world, she must be stronger than ever... because more shocking choices and sacrifices lie ahead.

About the Author

Veronica Roth graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in creative writing. This book will suck you in. Of course Veronica Roth's writing captivating with just the right conflict so it's not overbearing. The book itself is a wonderful followup. I devoured it in less than a 24 hour time period (which is no great feat for me as I'm a speedy reader) and am hoping there's more to come. Before picking up this book, I suggest however to pick up the first one. Make sure you read Divergent first. Don't think just because this is available and Divergent isn't that it's a fair switch. It wont be. You wont have the time to fall in love with Tris and Four. You wont see them grow as people. I feel like Insurgent definitely lived up to the large shadow cast by Divergent. I know what you're thinking, "Good stuff! I may possibly check into this." But you will now stand corrected as I correct your thoughts on this subject; it is GREAT stuff and if you have any spare time in your life you need to pick this book up (or the first one if you haven't read that one prior to this) and start devouring it like a Dauntless flame.

Book two in he Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth, Insurgent picks up where Divergent left off. Our main characters continue on their quest to uncover the truth about their world and who they are.

This book, for me, is a bridging novel. That's not to say I didn't like the book, I did. It jumps straight into the action and propels towards another cliffhanger that will lead us into the final instalment.

I felt that certain scenes in the Tris and Four story arc were a bit repetitive. In fact, on occasion I wanted to skim over the scene and return to the action. Upon reflection, this is actually well done. Tris is a teenager. Teenagers are immersed in their emotional growth which usually expresses itself by equal extremes of confusion and passion. After the fact, it's not nearly as tiresome as I thought it was at the time of reading.

There was so much to remember in Insurgent. So many characters were introduced. The customs of each faction were explored, opening up new worlds to us as readers. This was welcome. It was also an exercise in trying to remember it all! There is no question that Roth spent a great deal of time building this world. It pays off. The reader is never left wondering what something looks like, where it is, or why it is.

                  Comments about Insurgent:

I love the 'Divergent' series. Veronica Roth draws you into her Dystpoian universe and holds you captive from the very first paragraph.

Insurgent is the second in the series and some readers may find the plot difficult to follow if they haven't read the first.

Insurgent follows directly on from the end of Divergent, following Tris and her group of mis fits. The characters grow more in personality and you find your self falling in love with them more and more. Even the many new characters introduced in this book.

It ends with a very open ending, and we all wait with baited breath for the next book in the series.
