Comments about His Dark Materials:
I read these books myself last year and gifted them to my 11 year old daughter this year. I found them gripping and fascinating and my daughter has devoured the first one. I read parts of it aloud to her, which is our habit, but not much because she read so much on her own! There are some big ideas about the nature of life, being human and God. The author has a humanistic and atheistic worldview. If that's not you, don't be put off - these books are too wonderful - but perhaps have a conversation with your child about the author's perspective.
