"What if the princess did not marry Prince Charming but instead went on to be an astronaut or an activist? What if the jealous step sisters were supportive and kind? And what if the queen was the one really in charge of the kingdom?

Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls introduces us to one hundred remarkable women and their extraordinary lives. From Marie Curie to Malala, Ada Lovelace to Zaha Hadid, this book brings together the stories of scientists, artists, politicians, pirates and spies. Each double-page spread contains a mini-biography written in the style of a modern fairy tale and a full-page portrait capturing the spirit of each heroine, by one of the sixty female artists from across the globe who were commissioned to illustrate the book.

Powerful, moving and very necessary, Good Night Stories for Rebel Girl will inspire and delight readers of all ages."

I bought this book for my 9 year old niece who is quite determined and looks up to strong role models like her mum and myself. While it's great for youngsters to have their fairy tales for light entertainment and escapism, I think it's important that girls also see real stories of accomplished women past and present on which to model themselves. This book is cleverly illustrated and beautifully worded. Highly recommend :)

I bought copies for my grand daughters aged eight, five and five.
They love choosing which woman to read about, they were engaged by the fact that they are/were real. They liked it when I was able to add to their knowledge from my own memory of some of the characters so were very engaged and interested, asking many questions.
They are put off choosing some of the characters because of the sometimes scary/weird/strange portraits of the women, so much so that they turn the page quickly so they are not confronted by the ones they dislike.
The American spelling, mom in particular is grating, Aussie kids do not say mom. The portraits are very brief and some more detailed information would be good. EG The Bronte sisters had to publish under male names to be taken seriously, an important point which was omitted.
Hope the publishers collate another book with even more stories of amazing women in it, I would definitely buy it.
