If St George was ‘The Beatles of rugby league’, with hit year after hit year in the early part of the decade, then South Sydney was surely The Rolling Stones. And just as The Beatles vacated the world stage and surrendered the title of best rock and roll band in the world to The Stones, South Sydney assumed the mantle of Sydney premiers and produced their own ‘golden era’ from 1967 to 1971.

Glory Days: The Story of South Sydney’s Golden Era is the inside story of the men who made history with the Rabbitohs during five consecutive grand final appearances. A recordbreaking period punctuated by the upset loss to Balmain in the 1969 grand final, author Alan Whiticker takes you behind the scenes of a marvellous era of rugby league.

The South Sydney Rugby League Club is one of only two remaining Rugby League foundation clubs in Australia, and the one that resonates with most rugby league fans. There is a saying ‘When South Sydney is going well, Rugby League is going well’. Having claimed 20 premierships, they are the most successful club in the history of the game. Glory Days looks back at Souths’ Golden Era, with in-depth interviews with former players, and never-beforeheard commentary about that era. This book is a must for fans of both South Sydney and Rugby League – a nostalgic look back at the good ol’ days.

Includes candid, in-depth, exclusive interviews with:

• John Sattler
• Bob McCarthy
• Eric Simms
• Bob Honan
• Arthur and Ray Branaighan
• Ron Coote
• Gary Stevens
• Denis Pittard
• George Piggins

Plus many more! Rabbitohs CEO Shane Richardson brings the book up to date with his views on how the current club can return to its golden era.

‘A wonderful account of a magical era for the South Sydney club’
Brad Ryder, South Sydney Club historian and author of They Wear the Red and Green.
