When literature student Anastasia Steele interviews successful entrepreneur Christian Grey, she finds him very attractive and deeply intimidating. Convinced that their meeting went badly, she tries to put him out of her mind – until he turns up at the store where she works part-time, and invites her out.

Unworldly and innocent, Ana is shocked to find she wants this man. And, when he warns her to keep her distance, it only makes her want him more.

As they embark on a passionate love affair, Ana discovers more about her own desires, as well as the dark secrets Christian keeps hidden away from public view . . .

I found this book and the 2 sequels in a holiday shack and started reading without knowing anything about it, hadnt heard of it, the hype, the sequels, the story, nothing. It was fun easy reading with engaging interesting characters and a great plot. I couldnt put this book away until I finished it 3 days later (I have 2 little kids, otherwise I would have finished it that day I think). It reminded me of my own love story, how I met my husband, it made all the early day butterflies return and just made me happy reading it. It has a lot of ups and downs, keeps you reading, a cliffhanger at nearly every chapter but also a good laugh. The erotic bits in the book were pleasantly honest and great to read but not the reason for me to keep reading. I just wanted this modern Pretty Woman story to end the way I was hoping... An awesome find!

The reader needs to be open-minded to read this book, which I am. I did not read Book 3 of the trilogy - by then, the story had gotten too repetitive for me to stay interested in the mildly suspenseful storyline.
The only thing that upsets me about this trilogy is that it is readily available to non-adult purchasers (I checked at a couple of book stores - no age restrictions). I don't think erotic fiction should be readily available to minors, especially when this particular type of erotica is so graphically described.
Other than that, it's a good book - 3/5.

Not well written. I think the writer can't even use correct terminology for sexual organs. Doesn't accurately represent any kind of healthy relationship or agreement

Comments about Fifty Shades of Grey:

The most exciting parts of this book are the sex themes, without them the story line is ordinary.
If Mr Grey had not been a millionaire he would not have got away with the things he did. This is a book for people missing a sex life. I did not read the rest of the books and would not bother.

I makes you realise just how boring you are. There would be people out there that have had a very unhappy childhood like what Christian has gone through which is very sad. I actually got so into it one night that I was still reading it when the sun came up in the morning.

I felt as if I was in the minority with this book. I couldn't rake up the enthusiasiam. Poorly written and read like a story from Mills and Boons and even though I tried hard to finish it, kept skimming over the pages. Don't know what all the fuss was about over the erotica. Some historical romances have equally erotic scences and you don't find them on the best seller list. Amazing what hype can do to a books sales!!!
