Grime and dirt are hazards to oil-paint-surfaces. To remove these impurities, paintings are usually cleaned dry or wet with surfactants in aqueous medium. However, dry methods are not sufficient to completely clean the surfaces. Therefore modification of aqueous cleaning methods are necessary and include using mild non-ionic surfactants, thickening of the solutions used, reduction of contact humidity, and increasing temperature and pH. The authors of this book examine oil paint surfaces through the use of new 3D-Measurement Technology.
