E. Nesbit's classic adventure story comes to life in this seven-part series which originally screened on the BBC in 1968.
The happy, comfortable lives of three Edwardian children are shattered when their father (Frederick Treves), a Foreign Office official, is arrested on spying charges and imprisoned. The three children Bobbie (Jenny Agutter), Phyllis (Gillian Bailey), Peter (Neil McDermott) and their sick mother (Ann Castle) are forced to move to a little cottage in the country. Here they learn to overcome hardship with newfound adventures; for at the bottom of their garden is a railway station that brings fun, challenges and many special surprises.
Directed by Julia Smith, creator of Eastenders, this BBC adaptation of The Railway Children is classic family drama with enduring appeal.
