Art Imitates Life

Into the Wild is based on a true story and the best-selling book by Jon Krakauer.

After graduating from Emory University in 1992, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch) abandons his possessions, gives his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhikes to Alaska to live in the wilderness.

Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters that shape his life.

      Comments about Into the Wild:

This intriguing movie is a must for anyone who has ever wanted to abandon their lives and hit the road for some adventure. Young, intelligent and industrious Chris Candless (Emile Hirsch) does just that. Disenchanted by his self-proclaimed absurd life, he disappears without trace, escaping his dysfunctional family to seek freedom and walks the vagrant path with a new persona – Alexander Supertramp. During the 2 year journey across America, he encounters lively and loving characters. His journey of self-discovery eventually takes him into the wilds of Alaska and he deliberately survives only by his wits and untested bush skill, with dire consequences.
This is a book adaptation of Jon Krakauer's reconstruction of McCandless' journey from his diary, from letters, and from notes found after his death at age 23. Compelling!
