Robbie Coltrane stars in Cracker as Fitz, an alcoholic, gambling addicted, chain smoker, unfaithful to his wife and foul-mouthed. But at the same time, a brilliant criminal psychologist with a good heart. Fitz can look at a suspected criminal and find the cracks in their almost flawless exterior. And once he has found a crack, he can break them wide open.
Brotherly Love: Following the murder of a prostitute, the police call in Fitz to investigate. An arrest is made and the main suspect is brought in for interrogation. However, when an identical murder takes place, the team have to consider whether they have the wrong man, or a copy-cat killer.
Best Boys: Homeless factory worker Bill Nash is given refuge by his foreman Stuart Grady, but an argument with the landlady ends in murder. After being interviewed by the police, Bill and Grady go on the run which leads to yet another death.
True Romance: Fitz begins receiving love letters from a lab technician who is murdering male students she has lured into her room. The police want to take Fitz off the case as they understand that the murderer is writing to and killing, for him.
About the Directors
Roy Battersby (born 1936) is a British TV director, noted for his work in drama productions such as Between The Lines, Inspector Morse, Cracker and A Touch of Frost. Early in his career he made documentary features for the BBC programmes Tomorrow's World and Towards Tomorrow. In 2005, his film Red Mercury was shown at the Montreal World Film Festival.
Charles McDougall has directed for popular television series which include the pilot episode of ABC's Desperate Housewives (which includes the unaired pilot as well). McDougall has also directed episodes of Queer as Folk on Channel 4 and Sex and the City on HBO. McDougall directed the first two episodes of the US TV Series The Tudors as well as an episode of Good Behavior. He won an Emmy for Best Directing for a Comedy Series for his work on Desperate Housewives.
