Bought this as an introduction to Japan before travelling there. Appears comprehensive & authorative. Its easy to read. Would have liked some tables showing the rulers & the key players chronologically because as a new reader on this subject it is quite difficult to keep track of all the different names & court families.

This book only covers 4 areas of Japan so it is not comprehensive & then only the major centres. Some of the best parts of Japan don't even rate a mention. Check out the index before buying this book to ensure it covers the areas you are interested in.
