Their cabin, an ugly affair of rock and adobe had for its background a sheer sandstone cliff which lifted itself to a height of more than a thousand feet. In front the grassy valley spread out towards the mesas and deep canyons decorated on with occasional sagebrush, mesquite and cactus.
To this inhospitable spot rode Clay Dennison one day, with a dark secret locked behind his wide-spaced grey eyes. Clay was to bring trouble to a lot of folk who up till then had lived their lawless life without ever having been brought to account.
And he also brought new happiness for some of the citizens in the little cow-town of Conejo, not at least to Ada, the pretty daughter of sheriff Melvin.
