A lullaby to babies everywhere, Baby Bedtime is a lyrical tribute to the love inspired by the little people in our lives.

This enchanting read-aloud story combines the talents of Australia's premier picture-book writer, Mem Fox, author of Possum Magic and Where is the Green Sheep?, and acclaimed illustrator Emma Quay, creator of Rudie Nudie and Not a Cloud in the Sky.

About the Author

Mem Fox has written over 38 books for adults and children including Possum Magic, which has sold over three million copies and is the bestselling picture book ever in Australia. Mem has been presented with many awards including an AM in the 1993 Australia Day Honours for services to the cultural life of Australia; an SA Great Award for Literature in 2001; the Prime Minister's Centenary Medal in 2003; and she was shortlisted for the Australian of the Year in 2004. She worked as an Associate Professor of Literacy Studies in the School of Education at Flinders University, South Australia for twenty-four years and is now an international literacy consultant.

Mem's recent books with Penguin include Where is the Green Sheep?, Hunwick's Egg, A Particular Cow, Where The Giant Sleeps, Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes, Hello Baby!, The Goblin and the Empty Chair and A Giraffe in the Bath. She lives in Adelaide, Australia.

About the Illustrator

Emma Quay (pronounced 'Kway') grew up in England, and has wanted to be a writer and illustrator of children's picture books for as long as she can remember. She works from a studio in her home, and sometimes feels like she barely leaves it . . . but her illustrative work is held in collections around the world, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

Since moving to Australia in 1993, Emma has illustrated a wide range of award-winning children's picture books. Her memorable characters for Bear and Chook, Good Night, Me, Cheeky Monkey and Shrieking Violet are favourites on many children's and library bookshelves. Emma's collaboration with author Lisa Shanahan, Bear and Chook by the Sea was the winner of the 2010 CBCA Early Childhood Children's Book of the Year Award, her picture book, Rudie Nudie, won the 2012 Australian Book Industry Awards, Book of the Year for Younger Readers, and Emma's new title, Not a Cloud in the Sky, about the friendship between a bird and a cloud, arrived on book shelves in April this year. Emma has most recently collaborated with author Mem Fox, and their eagerly-anticipated picture book, Baby Bedtime, will be published in October by Viking/Penguin Australia.

I bought this for my baby for Christmas, but couldn't resist reading it to bub as soon as it arrived. A lovely, baby bonding book to share with your little one, complete with goodnight kiss at the end.

Mem Fox was born in Australia, grew up in Africa, studied drama in England, and returned to Adelaide, Australia in 1970, where she has lived with her husband, Malcolm, and daughter Chloë, happily ever after.

Mem Fox is Australia’s most highly regarded picture-book author. Her first book, Possum Magic, is the best selling children’s book ever in Australia, with sales of over three and a half million. And in the USA Time for Bed and Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge have each sold over a million copies. Time for Bed is on Oprah’s list of the twenty best children’s books of all time.

Mem has written over thirty picture books for children and five non-fiction books for adults, including the best-selling Reading Magic, aimed at parents of very young children. Her most recent book Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes beautifully illustrated by Helen Oxenbury, was on the New York Times bestseller lists for 16 weeks in 2008/2009.

She has received many civic awards, honours and accolades in Australia, including two honorary doctorates. She has visited the United States over one hundred times, mostly in her role as a literacy expert although she is also a well-known author in America. She is an influential international consultant in literacy, but she pretends to sit around writing full time.
